The mind is always looking to do what it does best: to process. It likes to be occupied and exists for that purpose. When there is inactivity, the mind’s wheels still want to turn and when they don’t, we feel uncomfortable. We often try to soothe that feeling with distractions or we poison our system to induce numbness. There is an addiction to activity and it takes effort to release that addiction. In feeling we need to be doing, instead of just being, we become a human DOING instead of a human BEING and our humanity is diminished.
When we are new to being still, or out of practice, we experience the unfamiliar. Our true self beckons to us and the wisdom of our soul can be heard: faintly at first, but the more we learn to sit with it and to listen, the more our innate wisdom can shine through. When we learn to listen to our heart, our journey becomes clearer and our physiology comes more into energetic alignment.
Attention and effort is often required to make the shift from our conditioned lifestyle toward a more human way of being, and many of us shy away from the work involved. We have habits and an addiction and we don’t always succeed at the first attempt, yet as with all addictions, the perseverance is worth it. Life lived through the heart takes some getting used to: we are surrounded by a society and infrastructure which supports the mind as being dominant, not the heart.
Sit quietly and allow the silence and inactivity to be. Your heart will speak to you. Listen.
